Obsidian Entertainment is preparing for the release of The Outer Worlds 2. The release is scheduled for October 29, 2025, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. In an interview, game director Brandon Adler shared what the team learned after the first part and how the conclusions influenced the sequel. The main thing is that players wanted more.
But "more" is not limited to the size of the maps. According to Adler, the studio conducted research to understand how to improve the game: add more content, increase the duration, and refine the mechanics.
"Players liked our world, and they wanted more. We heard: “Make more areas, more quests, give us more time in this universe.” This became an obvious goal for us.”
The Outer Worlds 2 will be noticeably more reactive. The world and characters will react more actively to the player's decisions and the features of their build.
"It was important for us to work out not only the creation of the character, but also the development — skills, traits, flaws. Players will be able to combine them and build their own role-playing style.”
Creative Director Leonard Boyarsky emphasized that the sequel will remove the limitations of the original. In the new part, there will be no decisions that accidentally block access to parts of the content.
"In the first game, we were limited — we couldn't allow the player's choice to cut off 10% of the content. Now we have the opportunity to make the game bigger and return to the deep role-playing systems that fans missed.”
