Creators are very sensitive people and can be easily hurt.

Recently, the creator of Baldur's Gate 3, Sven Vincke, spoke out again on social media. This time, the critics got it.

The head of Larian Studios shared:

I don't like it when people trash what others have created. When you release something into the world, you become vulnerable — and that alone deserves respect, even if you don't like the result itself. Destroying is easy, but creating is much harder. The best critics understand this: even when expressing criticism, they try not to hurt [the creators].

Sven Vincke admitted that sometimes he wants to introduce a rating system for critics:

Sometimes I think it would be nice to rate the critics themselves — in the style of Metacritic — depending on how others rate their criticism. I like to think that this might instill a little more restraint in them. Harsh words really do hurt. You shouldn't let your soul become calloused just because you want to publish something.

The developer of Baldur's Gate 3 did not specify what triggered his publication on the social network. In further posts, he noted that he opposes the practices of the gaming industry with "milking" players:

Looks like this needs clarification — I also don't approve when developers or publishers mistreat players. And especially I don't like those who milk people who sincerely love their game. I understand why players are angry about this. It also upsets me. I wholeheartedly hate it and vowed that Larian would never do that.

Sven also noted that "most creative people are sensitive natures, and it is these sensitive people who worry and try the most" and therefore you need to carefully choose words when criticizing:

When [these creators] burn out, unable to withstand the flow of malice, we all lose, because only those who don't care remain. You can't underestimate how words affect such people. We don't need them to lose their idealism and love for the players. There are other ways to combat the exploitation of players. The most effective is simply not to play such games. You don't need to hurt the people behind the project to express your dissatisfaction. If enough players stop supporting games that don't respect their users, the leaders will quickly get the hint and change course. There are plenty of other games now.
