Microsoft may be taking a step towards unifying its gaming ecosystem. Journalist and insider Jez Corden reported that the company is developing an emulation system that will allow launching individual Xbox games directly on Windows devices, including ROG Xbox Ally.

According to Corden, the technology could make the Xbox Ally "more like an Xbox" by the end of 2025 or early 2026.

"Those who say that Xbox Ally is not an Xbox due to the lack of support for real games may change their minds next year if the information is correct," Corden noted. He added that Microsoft will need to agree on licenses with publishers and developers, which means that not all Xbox games will be compatible from the start.

On the podcast, Corden explained that the Xbox Ally is essentially a PC with the need for manual configuration. But changes may appear soon:

"I've heard that interesting features will appear next year that will make the device more like an Xbox."

Emulation refers to a solution similar to Xbox 360 backward compatibility, allowing games to run directly on Windows.

Corden also hinted at Microsoft's long-term strategy: new generations of Xbox will support games on PC via AMD chips, expanding the capabilities of the hybrid ecosystem. If the rumors are confirmed, emulation will allow Xbox games to run natively on a portable device and bring Ally closer to the main Xbox ecosystem.

Corden warns that these are just rumors for now.
