The football game market is undergoing restructuring. Following the renaming of FIFA to EA Sports FC and new moves by Konami and UFL, SEGA is entering the fray. Sega Football Club Champions was intended to combine simulation and manager depth, utilizing technologies from Football Manager.
Sega has confirmed the release delay. The game, originally planned for 2025, will now be released in early 2026 and will be renamed Sega Football Club Champions 2026. According to the developers, the decision was made after closed beta tests in August. Additional time is needed to improve quality and add features that will make the project competitive among sports simulators.
The game will be released on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PC, and iOS and Android mobile devices, retaining the free-to-play model. In November, Sega will host a stream on YouTube, where they will show fresh footage, discuss gameplay, and announce the exact release date.
