More and more developers are turning to rethinking classic gambling games, following the example of LocalThunk, who managed to turn poker into a fascinating indie phenomenon.
Pepperbox Studios has announced Dice of Kalma, a deck-building roguelike with dice game elements inspired by Balatro and the classic "Zonk".
Instead of cards, players will roll six-sided dice and collect combinations to earn points. Skulls are used to modify rolls and enhance combinations, similar to jokers from Balatro, which provide special effects, change the rules, and help get out of difficult situations.
On mobile devices, the game will be distributed under a free-to-play model. As indicated in the App Store and Google Play, the basic version is available without payment, and full access is unlocked after an in-game purchase of 299 rubles.
The exact release date has not yet been announced. The App Store indicates December 31, 2025, a typical technical placeholder used when preparing a page in the store. A demo version of Dice of Kalma is already available on Steam and Google Play.
