Helldivers 2 has become a real hit on Xbox. According to analyst Mat Piscatella from NPD Group, the game ranked third in sales on Xbox in August, and fourth in September. The accounting was based on revenue, while Helldivers 2 is not a full-fledged AAA project.
Across all platforms, the game ranked sixth in sales in September, and rose to 19th place for the year, although it launched back in 2024. This shows that the release on Xbox extended the game's life cycle and increased revenue from microtransactions—something Sony has long sought in its service games.
Now, many are wondering: will Sony continue to share other products on Xbox? It is already known that Marathon from Bungie will be released on all platforms simultaneously, and in the future, a similar fate may await Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls or Fairgames.
If Helldivers 2 was indeed an experiment, its success could open a new chapter for PlayStation, where exclusivity will cease to be a limitation and become part of the strategy.
