Alkimia Interactive has confirmed that Gothic Remake will not appear on Switch 2. The reason is simple: the "hardware" does not meet the studio's ambitions.
In an interview, studio head Reinhard Pollice dispelled all doubts:
"Switch 2 is a great console, but I think we need to change our approach to development. We are trying to push the boundaries of the current generation of consoles, and, unfortunately, I don't think Switch 2 meets the standards."
Although the console has received a noticeable performance boost compared to its predecessor, the studio's ambitious concept goes beyond the capabilities of the device. Alkimia Interactive wants to make a modern and faithful remake of the original, which requires serious technical resources.
Gothic Remake will be released in the first quarter of 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
