YouTube is launching a tool to combat deepfakes. The new feature is currently available to a limited number of users, but will be available to everyone from January 2026.

To pass the verification, you need to record a short video selfie and show an identity document. The procedure takes place through YouTube Studio. After that, the system analyzes the platform, trying to find videos where the user's face may appear.

Content creators will receive a list of found videos and will be able to request their removal directly from the control panel. In this way, YouTube wants to give users more control over how their appearance is used.

The company notes that the tool is not yet perfect. Errors are possible — real videos may be mistakenly identified as deepfakes, and vice versa. It will not always be possible to remove an unwanted video if it does not violate the platform's rules.
