Following the successful release of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, the head of Sonic Team, Takashi Iizuka, spoke about the team's plans for new games.
According to him, a "roadmap" of possible projects is created first, then it is decided which game to work on next year, and resources are allocated. In the case of CrossWorlds, the team focused on reviving the racing direction of the franchise.
"First, we create a map of Sonic games and decide which title to release in which year. Then we allocate resources," said Iizuka. He did not disclose details of further plans, but the maps take into account projects already in development.
Sega confirmed that CrossWorlds sold over a million copies on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
