Capcom showed record results for the first half of fiscal year 2025, driven by sales of previously released games.
The main product was Devil May Cry 5 — 2.13 million copies sold, the company's best result for this period. The increase in interest coincided with the release of the anime on Netflix, which brought attention back to the franchise.
Net sales amounted to ¥81.1 billion (~$540 million, +44%), operating profit — ¥39.3 billion (~$262 million, +90%). A total of 23.85 million copies were sold (+19.1%), the best result for the first half of the year. The main contribution came from catalog games (released earlier), 22.85 million copies (96%). New releases — 997 thousand units (-7.2%). Digital sales 94% (22.41 million), physical 6%. PC leads with 13.66 million digital copies (+27.2%).
Devil May Cry 5 surpassed other games: Resident Evil Village — 1.57 million, Resident Evil 4 — 1.27 million, Resident Evil 7 — 1.15 million, Street Fighter 6 — 1.09 million. Total sales of Devil May Cry 5 exceeded 10.78 million copies.
Capcom attributes its success to the Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, and Street Fighter franchises. The digital strategy with a margin of 62.9% confirms the effectiveness of the catalog game business.
The anime on Netflix revived interest in Devil May Cry 5 and attracted a global audience, stimulating sales.
