The fourth season of "The Witcher" has premiered on Netflix. All eight episodes are now available for viewing, and with them, viewers have seen the new lead actor for the first time — Liam Hemsworth, who replaced Henry Cavill after the third season.
The new season is based on Andrzej Sapkowski's novel "Baptism of Fire" and partly on "The Tower of the Swallow". Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri once again find themselves separated by war and forced to go their own ways. The Witcher gathers his own hanza — a motley group of allies with whom he sets out to find Ciri.
The fourth season has become the most expensive in the history of the project. According to Redanian Intelligence, its budget was about $221 million — more than $27 million per episode. Netflix's total investment in "The Witcher" universe, including spin-offs and prequels, has already exceeded $720 million and may approach a billion after the release of the fifth season.
While viewers around the world are sharing their first impressions, the Russian audience has to wait for the new episodes to become available for home viewing.
