As the release of the Gothic remake approaches, various details are being revealed.
The creators of the Gothic remake are communicating with journalists. Recently, during a conversation with GRY Online, they talked about the current status of the project and some innovations.
It became known that the remake will "follow in the footsteps of The Witcher 3" — a useful function previously introduced in the CD Projekt RED game will be added.
Reinhard Pollice, CEO of Alkimia Interactive, spoke about the function of retelling past events:
[...] we added a function that, when you first load a save, summarizes all the moments of the story that you have experienced so far. [...] This is accompanied by the voice of a narrator, and since this happens during the loading screen, it doesn't interfere with anything, and you can skip this retelling if you want
In the community Gothic studied the interview and highlighted some points:
- All chapters have already been completed, and the authors of the Gothic remake have reworked the fight with the Sleeper — "it will be associated with nightmares and dreams"
- A lot of time is devoted to working on the combat system (controllability and responsiveness, animations and smooth transitions between them)
- Completely redesigned animations of the master of the two-handed sword
- The Unreal Engine 5 engine was praised
Regarding optimization for Xbox Series S, Reinhard said:
if I could decide everything, I would definitely announce from the very beginning that the game would not be released on Xbox Series S! However, this cannot be done, because if something comes out on Series X, it must also come out on S, but... the amount of time we lost optimizing the game for this console is simply mind-boggling. It was simply unbearable, because it was a battle for every megabyte of memory. In fact, [this battle continues] because we are constantly trying to optimize the available memory. But this is just tedious, slow work. This part of game development is completely unsatisfying
The release of the Gothic remake is expected in 2026.
