Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella spoke about the company's plans for the next generation of Xbox. In a conversation with TBPN, he stated that the future console will be a rethinking of the usual ideas about platforms and will combine the features of PCs and consoles.
Nadella recalled that Microsoft became the largest publisher after the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, and now strives to become an "excellent publisher" whose games are released "everywhere and on all platforms." According to him, the company sees Steam as a direct competitor to Xbox, but wants to promote its own ecosystem through games and services.
Speaking about the new generation of Xbox, Nadella noted that Microsoft "wants to do something innovative in the field of system architecture - both for the console and for the PC." He added that it's funny to watch users still separate these two concepts:
"We created the console because we wanted to create the best PC that could be used in games. I would like to reconsider some of these common views."
These words confirm rumors that the next Xbox will be a hybrid of console and PC, combining the power of a computer and the simplicity of a console interface. Xbox President Sarah Bond previously said that the new device will be "premium" and offer a "curated gaming experience."
