Rockstar Games had almost finished creating a single-player DLC for Grand Theft Auto V, where Trevor Philips acted as a secret agent, but the project was canceled halfway through.

In an interview with Lex Fridman, studio co-founder Dan Houser confirmed for the first time long-standing rumors about the existence of the add-on. According to him, the content was "about half ready" when the decision was made to stop development.

"The internet knows, that we were doing a single-player add-on for GTA V that never came out. You could play as Trevor, but he was a secret agent. It was nice. But the game was never fully completed. It was abandoned when it was about halfway done."

He noted that the decision to cancel the DLC was the result of compromises:

"If that had happened, we probably wouldn't have been able to make Red Dead Redemption 2. So there are always compromises."

Houser admitted that he always liked the idea of story add-ons:

"I like single-player DLCs. I think players really like them, and they're very interesting to make. We still love single-player games. And I think when we launched Absurd Ventures, we reflected on ourselves a lot. Fortunately, if you want to do what we have to do, and what I want to do, which is to create new intellectual property, you need single-player games."

Houser said that his new studio, Absurd Ventures, intends to focus specifically on single-player stories and build the foundation of its projects on this.
