Insider MyTimeToShineHello has shared new information about the future Super Mario cinematic universe from Nintendo and Illumination. According to him, the third film in the series is already in the early stages of production and will be based on Super Mario Odyssey.
Previously, Nintendo and Illumination released "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" (2023), which grossed over $1.36 billion and became the highest-grossing video game adaptation in history. The next installment — Super Mario Galaxy Movie — will be released in the spring of 2026. The same source previously reported that the first trailer for the film will appear before November 21, 2025.
There has been no official announcement of the third film yet. However, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa previously stated that the company plans to release more animated projects based on its game series. Combined with the studio's confidence in the success of the upcoming sequel, this allows Nintendo to make long-term plans for the development of its own cinematic universe.
