BioWare has officially confirmed that Amazon's upcoming Mass Effect adaptation will not retell the story of the original game trilogy. Franchise producer Michael Gamble announced this, noting that the series will offer viewers "a completely new story" and will unfold after the events of Mass Effect 3.

"We are working closely with Amazon and are incredibly inspired by the ideas that the talented team is offering. The writers' room is actively working, and we have already determined how the series will fit into the canon and where it will be located relative to the new game. The story will not be a repetition of Commander Shepard's path — because this is your story, isn't it?"

According to previous data, filming of the project is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026, and the production involves the team behind the Fallout series for Amazon. Among them are Scott Faris and Doug Jung ("Star Trek Beyond"), and the showrunner is Daniel Casey, the screenwriter of the ninth film in the Fast & Furious franchise.

According to the authors, the adaptation will focus on original characters and conflicts, without affecting the story of Shepard, whose choices and ending remain personal to each player. Thus, the series will maintain canonical flexibility and expand the Mass Effect universe without rewriting its key events.

At the same time, the studio continues to work on a new part of Mass Effect, which is so far only known to be developing in the same time period as the upcoming series. The developers emphasize that the game and the show will complement each other, not intersect directly.
