Square Enix has begun large-scale layoffs in the US and UK. According to media reports, more than a hundred employees have been affected by the cuts. Several of them confirmed the news on social media. A company representative stated that the restructuring is aimed at "strengthening the development structure and forming a unified global marketing strategy."
In an official comment, Square Enix noted that the decision was made "after careful analysis" and should "ensure the long-term growth of the company." The laid-off employees were promised support and thanked for their contribution to the development of the studio.
According to IGN, up to 137 jobs are at risk in the UK, and similar measures will affect American offices. According to VGC, the cuts affected almost all departments, including community teams.
At the same time, the company announced the transfer of core development to Japan and the closure of overseas studios. Square Enix also announced that by 2027 it plans to entrust artificial intelligence with up to 70% of the tasks of testing and debugging games.
Earlier, the head of the company, Takashi Kiryu, stated that Square Enix intends to actively develop the AI direction.
