The adaptation of the viral hit is being produced by Yostar Pictures and the authors of the original game.
Yostar Pictures, known for the Arknights and Blue Archive adaptations, has presented the first trailer for the anime based on the indie hit Needy Streamer Overdose.
Masaoki Nakajima, who previously directed a short film based on Needy Girl Overdose and participated in the creation of "Blue Archive" and "Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt", has been appointed as the director. The music is being handled by Aiobahn +81, Sasuke Haraguchi, and DÉ DÉ MOUSE. Nyalra, the author of the original game, has taken on the script and creative supervision.
According to reports, Nyalra personally insisted on writing a new script for the 13-episode show. The anime will not be a literal retelling of the game's events, but will offer a reinterpretation with new characters and storylines.
The anime is scheduled for television release in April 2026, and before that, the project will receive a limited theatrical release in Japan.
Needy Girl Overdose is a visual novel and streamer management simulator released on Steam in January 2022. The story tells the story of thirty days in the life of a girl named Ame, who suffers from an addiction to approval and dreams of becoming an "internet angel." Her alter ego is OMGkawaiiAngel, a bright and deliberately cute image under which she streams. The player manages her schedule, helps her find topics for broadcasts, monitors her mental state, and watches as likes and donations gradually turn into addiction and madness.
After its release, the project became a cultural phenomenon in Japan: it has over 46,000 reviews on Steam, 94% of which are positive, and the total number of downloads has exceeded three million.
