Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario, still personally checks new games about the famous plumber to make sure they "really feel like Mario."
In an interview with Casa Brutus, he said that although the main work is now done by the team, he still tests the beginning of each game himself:
Now I have colleagues who support the Mario universe, so I trust them with most of the work. But I always personally go through the first 30 minutes and carefully check the interface - to make sure it's really Mario.
Miyamoto noted that he considers Super Mario World to be the pinnacle of the 2D era, and Super Mario Odyssey to be a similar achievement for modern 3D games. He added that in the past, the release of each new console was accompanied by the release of a new Mario adventure, and now he himself is interested in how the team will cope with this task on Switch 2.
Miyamoto joked that he might one day stop controlling the process: "Maybe I'll say: “I won't watch anymore!” (laughs) The main thing is to stay healthy until Mario's 50th anniversary".
According to unofficial data, Nintendo is preparing a new 3D Mario game, but its release date has not yet been announced.
