"Predator: Planet of Death" had the best opening in the history of the franchise, grossing $80 million worldwide in its opening weekend. Director Dan Trachtenberg's film became the first installment in the series released in theaters under the wing of Disney after the purchase of 20th Century Studios, and exceeded analysts' forecasts, who expected a debut at the level of $60 million.
As anticipated before the release, the PG-13 rating helped attract a wider audience, which ensured the growth of fees. At the same time, according to critics, Trachtenberg did not abandon the signature dynamics and brutality of the series: the main part of the "bloody" scenes is associated with aliens and synthetics of the Weyland-Yutani corporation, so they do not fall under censorship restrictions.
The film demonstrates not only commercial but also reputational success. "Predator: Planet of Death" became the highest-rated film in the franchise according to viewers and entered the top 3 according to critics, receiving 95% and 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, respectively.
