An exclusive interview with several former Rockstar North employees (the Edinburgh branch of Rockstar Games) who have been protesting near the company's office for several days has appeared on the People Make Games YouTube channel.
The developers want to be taken back to Rockstar so they can continue working on Grand Theft Auto 6.
A total of 30 to 40 developers in the UK and Canada were fired, mostly from Rockstar North — the main studio working on Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar claims the reason was "the dissemination of confidential information on a public forum" and "gross misconduct". However, the dismissed insist that there is no evidence of leaks, they were simply kicked out without investigation.
Employees are also unhappy with the wording "gross misconduct", which has become a kind of stigma in their resumes, making it extremely difficult to find a new job.
The Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB) immediately stated that this is "the most brazen and ruthless act of union busting in the history of the gaming industry". An IWGB representative stated that Rockstar's management has already been sent a demand to reinstate the workers and pay them compensation.
