Hideo Kojima decided not to limit himself to two film adaptations and presented a third.
Kojima Productions has announced that it is working on an anime series in the Death Stranding universe, which will be released on Disney+ in 2027. The project is tentatively titled Death Stranding: Isolations and is being created in classic 2D animation.
According to the studio, viewers will see "a completely new story" about two unknown heroes - a young man and a girl who find themselves isolated against the backdrop of the apocalypse. The events will unfold in North America around the same time that Sam Bridges embarks on his journey across the continent.
"Somewhere in North America, while Sam Bridges is walking across the continent trying to save America, others are also finding their way through loneliness - each in their own way. A man seeks salvation outside the network of connections promoted by Bridges. A warrior woman dreams of reviving the world of eternal struggle. A boy holds a grudge against Bridges. A girl accepts loneliness as the meaning of existence. On the verge of the end of humanity, their destinies and hopes intersect - and another story begins in the world of Death Stranding."
Hideo Kojima himself is the executive producer of the project, and the production is handled by E&H Production, known for the animated action movie "Ninja Kamui". The direction was entrusted to Takayuki Sano, who worked on the final season of "Attack on Titan" and the full-length "Magical Battle 0". The character design is handled by Russian artist Ilya Kuvshinov, who previously created the visual style of "Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045".
The anime series will be released in 2027 on the Disney+ streaming platform.
In addition to Isolations, two other film adaptations are also in the works: a feature film by Michael Sarnoski and A24, as well as an animated film Death Stranding: Mosquito from ABC Animation. Both projects will also tell independent stories in the world of Death Stranding.
