Sony has confirmed rumors of a new game in the Horizon universe. The project is titled Horizon: Steel Frontiers, but contrary to expectations, it will not be released on PlayStation 5.
The Horizon series has been one of Sony's main franchises for many years. The stories of Aloy, her battles with mechanical creatures, and the search for the secrets of the ancient world have captivated audiences. Previously, there were rumors that the studio, in collaboration with NCSoft, was working on a full-fledged MMORPG — now this has been officially confirmed.
The main surprise is the platform. Horizon: Steel Frontiers is being created, but the project is intended only for PC and mobile devices. This is the first time a PlayStation Studios game has been released without support for Sony consoles.
The first details were revealed at G-Star 2025. The game is being developed by NCSoft with the participation of Guerrilla Games. The authors promise a large online world with elements of hunting, battles with machines, and exploration. The action will unfold in the Deadlands region, inspired by Arizona and New Mexico. Players will become machine hunters, looking for rare resources and opportunities.
The project will offer massive raids, battles between tribes, many players on one map, and the ability to use weapons taken from defeated machines. There will also be deep character customization.
The first teaser has been published. Guerrilla's head, Jan-Bart van Beek, noted that the project will provide a "new, but still recognizable Horizon experience."
