The continuation of the historical drama from FX will begin filming in January 2026.

FX has shared the first details of the second season of the series "Shōgun," including plot details and cast. Reportedly, the continuation will unfold ten years after the finale of the first season.

According to co-creator and executive producer Justin Marks, the new chapter of "Shōgun" will be "a story of war and its consequences" and will also present "an unexpected love story." He also noted that moving the action ten years forward will allow the characters to be shown in a different light.

"We want to bring viewers back to these characters, but in a way that shows how their lives have changed over the years and what they have had to endure."

Hiroyuki Sanada (Lord Yoshi Toranaga) and Cosmo Jarvis (John Blackthorne) will return to their roles. New additions to the cast include Asami Mizukawa, Masataka Kubota, Shō Kaneta, Takaaki Enoki, and Jun Kunimura.

Filming for the second season will begin in January 2026 in Vancouver. The premiere date has not yet been announced, but new episodes are expected to be released in 2027.

The series "Shōgun" is based on James Clavell's 1975 novel and tells the story of two people from different worlds — English navigator John Blackthorne and Japanese daimyō Yoshi Toranaga, whose fates intertwine against the backdrop of political intrigues in feudal Japan.

Initially, the project was conceived as a mini-series, but thanks to high ratings and critical success, FX extended it for two seasons at once. In 2024, "Shōgun" became the first Japanese drama to win an Emmy Award in the category of "Outstanding Drama Series." In total, the show received 18 Emmy Awards and many other awards and nominations, so expectations for the second season will inevitably be high.
