Kotaku journalists managed to obtain new details of the lawsuit between Krafton and the founders of Unknown Worlds, Charles Cleveland, Adam McGuire, and Edward Gill. It is reported that the head of Krafton tried to get advice from ChatGPT on how to avoid paying the developers a bonus of $250 million, which they would have received if the game exceeded a certain sales threshold.
According to the plaintiffs, the artificial intelligence also noted that "it would be difficult to cancel the bonuses" — as did the lawyers of Krafton itself.
Internal Krafton correspondence under the code name "Project X" is also cited: the company considered two options — either to negotiate with the founders to reduce the bonus ("Deal"), or simply "take over" the studio ("Take over"). When negotiations failed, the second path was chosen, which the management called "easier."
Krafton rejects all accusations, calling them an attempt to "distract attention", and also notes that the change of leadership was a forced measure: the former leaders allegedly "showed little interest" in the development of Subnautica 2 and refused to return to their posts even after being offered to extend the validity of the bonuses.
This is just an attempt to distract attention from the fact that the founders themselves asked other key employees to delete "compromising" correspondence in their ChatGPT accounts.
In addition, Krafton accuses the ex-managers of stealing and withholding hundreds of thousands of confidential documents, as well as destroying some of the files after being fired.
