Fans of the "Game of Thrones" prequel can rest assured about the fate of the spin-off until 2028.
HBO has announced the renewal of "House of the Dragon" for a fourth season in advance — even before the premiere of the third season, which is expected in the summer of 2026. The decision was announced by HBO and HBO Max CEO Casey Bloys at the company's presentation in New York.
Earlier, showrunner Ryan Condal said that the story could end in the fourth season, but HBO has not confirmed whether it will be the final one. According to Deadline, Condal continues to work on the script, and the final decision on the completion of the project will be made later.
"House of the Dragon" is based on George R. R. Martin's novel "Fire & Blood" and tells the story of the confrontation within House Targaryen two hundred years before the events of "Game of Thrones". The second season, which finished filming in August 2024, focused on the escalation of the conflict and the transition of the story to a large-scale civil war known as the "Dance of the Dragons."
The cast of the third season includes Matt Smith, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, Sonoya Mizuno, Harry Collett, Phia Saban, and others. The project is produced by George Martin and Ryan Condal.
The fourth season of "House of the Dragon" is scheduled to be released in 2028.
