According to The Hollywood Reporter, following the completion of the deal with Skydance and the arrival of David Ellison as head of Paramount, one of the most anticipated \"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles\" projects of recent years has been shelved.

The adaptation of the graphic novel \"The Last Ronin,\" aimed at an adult audience and rated R, has been officially canceled. The film was supposed to be the first non-animated film in the franchise in ten years and tell the story of the last surviving Turtle, avenging the death of his brothers.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new Paramount team has abandoned the \"bloody, dark story\" and decided to reboot the project from scratch. Now, the focus is on Neal H. Moritz, the producer of the \"Fast & Furious\" and \"Sonic the Hedgehog\" series — Paramount hopes to repeat the success of \"family-friendly\" franchises. For this reason, the rejection of \"The Last Ronin\" has already been dubbed \"Sonic-ification.\"

Nevertheless, a THR source claims that the door for \"The Last Ronin\" is still \"ajar\": Paramount may return to the project later if it deems it appropriate.

Earlier, the studio also canceled the continuation of the animated series \"Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,\" but the full-length animated film \"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem 2\" is still scheduled for release on September 17, 2027.
