Spike Chunsoft has presented a new trailer for Steins;Gate Re:Boot — an updated version of the cult visual novel from 2009. Simultaneously, it was announced that the release has been postponed to 2026, although the game was originally scheduled to come out in 2025. The company explained that the team needs more time to finalize the project.
Steins;Gate Re:Boot is being created as a complete reimagining of the original, not a remaster. The character redesign was done by artist huke — the author of the original images of Kurisu Makise and Rintaro Okabe. He updated the heroes' clothing and accessories, making their look more modern but recognizable. Key plot scenes were redrawn under his guidance, and several new episodes appeared in the script.
According to the team, Re:Boot will offer an improved narrative structure and several alternative endings. The gameplay will remain text-based but will receive a redesigned interface, smoother animations, and a modern visual presentation. The campaign length will be about 30–50 hours.
The original Steins;Gate, released in 2009, quickly became one of the most influential visual novels in the history of the genre. The game inspired a successful anime series, a feature film, and the spin-off Steins;Gate 0. Currently, MAGES. is also developing the project Steins;Gate 0 Elite.
