No need to look for inspiration, it came by itself.
In ARC Raiders, there's Scrappy — a rooster who searches for resources for players to craft items. Recently, the developers shared how the charismatic assistant was created.
It turned out that this is a real rooster. Johan, a 3D artist for ARC Raiders, shared memories of an incident that occurred during a video conference:
I was living with my parents at the time — they, as it turned out, had chickens. Right in the middle of the meeting, the birds somehow made their way into the house and began to strut importantly behind my back, instantly attracting all the attention and disrupting the discussion. Among them was Hakan — the rooster who later became Scrappy.
Johan decided to scan Hakan and add him to ARC Raiders as an Easter egg. However, his role then became more important.
When creating an asset for a "resource producer," many ideas were considered, including robots, cats, and robot-cats, but they couldn't choose a design, and then they remembered Hakan: "Don't we have a rooster?"
As a result, the rooster appeared in ARC Raiders as an assistant who "produces" resources.
