The musician has been nominated for an Oscar 15 times and is considered one of the most influential Hollywood composers.
Director Shawn Levy has officially confirmed that Thomas Newman, the composer of music for many iconic films, from "The Shawshank Redemption" and "The Green Mile" to "White Bird: A Wonder Story", will be the composer for the film "Star Wars: Starfighter". He has 15 Oscar nominations to his name, as well as numerous awards and nominations for Grammy, Emmy, BAFTA and other awards.
In a conversation with the podcast On Film… with Kevin McCarthy, Levy called Newman a "maestro" and admitted that he had wanted to work with him for a long time. According to the director, he personally called the composer, told him about his vision of the project and sent the script - after that, Newman agreed to join the film.
Levy previously noted that his film will be neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Skywalker saga: the project is conceived as a completely independent story in the "Star Wars" universe. The script was written by Jonathan Tropper ("Banshee"), and the main roles are played by Ryan Gosling, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Amy Adams and Aaron Pierre.
The world premiere of the film is scheduled for May 28, 2027.
