Netflix has refused to renew Zack Snyder and Jay Oliva's animated series «Twilight of the Gods», despite the fact that the first season ended with a plot twist directly hinting at a sequel. According to What’s On Netflix, the project did not reach the global engagement figures that the streaming service expected.
The series, created by Stone Quarry Animation and Xilam Animation studios, was released in September 2024 and received restrained positive reviews — 76% from critics and 75% from viewers on Rotten Tomatoes. However, even the strong visual component and large-scale production did not help it gather an audience capable of satisfying Netflix.
The first chapter told the story of the mortal king Leif and the warrior Sigrid, whose love turned into a bloody tragedy. The season finale ended with a major cliffhanger that hinted at further development of the plot, but now there is no need to wait for a sequel.
«Twilight of the Gods» became part of a general review of the content lineup: along with them, Netflix also closed the second season of the reboot «Good Times» and the animated series «Exploding Kittens».
