Paramount plans to present several family releases at the end of 2028.
Paramount has announced the release dates for two films based on the iconic franchises Sonic the Hedgehog and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Both projects will be released in the holiday season of 2028. The hybrid live-action version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be released on November 17, and the new Sonic movie will be released on December 22, 2028.
This is reported by Deadline, although it does not specify which film in the Sonic franchise is being referred to. The premiere of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is already scheduled for March 19, 2027, which means that the date in December 2028 refers to another project. Most likely, it is Sonic the Hedgehog 5 or another film in the universe. It is not yet known whether Paramount is planning a fifth Sonic movie or a spin-off, such as one about Shadow.
Details of Sonic the Hedgehog 4 are also not disclosed. The final scene of the third film hinted at the appearance of Metal Sonic and Amy Rose, and insiders reported that the plot may be based on Sonic CD and touch on the theme of time travel.
As for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Paramount previously suspended production of the dark adaptation of the comic book Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin with an R rating, deciding to focus on a more "family-friendly" version. Neil H. Moritz, the producer behind the Fast & Furious and Sonic the Hedgehog film universes, is responsible for the development. Foreign media describe the upcoming project as a "Sonic-fied" interpretation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
At the same time, the studio is preparing a sequel to the animated film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, which is scheduled to premiere on September 17, 2027.
