Sony Interactive Entertainment and Tencent have reached an agreement to postpone the lawsuit in which Sony accuses the Chinese giant of copying elements of the Horizon series for its upcoming game Light of Motiram.
According to a new court order, the parties "have been negotiating to resolve the current dispute." As a result, Sony and Tencent have agreed to extend the filing schedule and postpone the hearing date, but under strict conditions proposed by Sony.
Key terms of the postponement:
- The postponement cannot be used by Tencent as an argument that Sony "delayed" the filing of a motion for a preliminary injunction
- Any new advertising and public testing of Light of Motiram is prohibited until the motion for a preliminary injunction is considered
- The release date of Light of Motiram cannot be moved earlier than Q4 2027
- Tencent waives the requirement for expedited disclosure of evidence on the motion for an injunction
Now the deadlines are as follows:
- Tencent's response to Sony's motion for a preliminary injunction — until December 17, 2025 (instead of December 3)
- Sony's reply brief — until January 2, 2026
- The joint hearing on the motion for a preliminary injunction and on Tencent's motion to dismiss the lawsuit is scheduled for January 29, 2026 (instead of January 15) by Judge Jacqueline Corley
