Valve's new policy forced the abandonment of "Classic."
Recently, the modding team EMINOMA reminded everyone about their project Team Fortress 2 Classic. Valve's policy has changed, and the developers had to change the project's name — it is now known as Team Fortress 2 Classified.
When we submitted our demo to Steam Next Fest, the review process was delayed due to intellectual property concerns [...] we contacted Valve to clarify the situation. After that, we received a request to rename our mod. We learned that recently, several other mods have used the word "Classic" in their names in a way that unintentionally made their projects look like official Valve products. As a result, Valve has had a new policy in place since September. Although it was previously allowed, Valve's policy regarding mod demos has also changed, which means we wouldn't have been able to release our demo anyway.
EMINOMA is currently finalizing the modification and plans to release it on Steam on January 30, 2026.
Work on TF 2 Classified has been underway since 2014, and a full release took place several years ago. This version includes new content, such as the "Civilian" class; weapons based on previous versions of TF2, as well as additional game modes and improvements.
