The Settlers: New Allies didn't impress many players, but there is an alternative project on the market for fans of the genre.
Pioneers of Pagonia recently exited early access. This is a city-building simulator from Envision Entertainment, with The Settlers developer Volker Wertich participating in its creation.
The player takes on the role of a pioneer leading their people through a world consumed by fog and consisting of countless islands:
Your task is to revive hope, skill, and society. Establish settlements, find lost tribes, discover technologies, and face the dangers that lurk in the fog [...] Create a thriving economy with more than 60 types of buildings and more than 100 goods. Every stage of production is visible — whether it's forestry or an armory.
The game features a story campaign, as well as a map editor that allows you to create your own islands and share them with other players.
Reviews for Pioneers of Pagonia on Steam are "very positive" (83% rating).
