The folklore adventure through the deep American South from the creators of We Happy Few will soon reach other platforms.
Xbox Game Studios and Compulsion Games have announced that South of Midnight will be released on PlayStation 5 and Switch 2 in the spring of 2026. Thus, the game will cease to be an Xbox console exclusive approximately one year after its release.
South of Midnight originally launched on April 8, 2025, on Xbox Series and PC — on Steam and the Microsoft Store — and offered a story-driven adventure set in a dark, fantastical version of the American South. Players take on the role of Hazel Fledgling, who, while trying to cope with the aftermath of a hurricane that destroyed her hometown, becomes a Weaver — possessing unusual abilities to "stitch" together broken connections between worlds, people, and spirits.
The game combines combat using abilities, platforming, and solving small puzzles with an expressive visual style done in the spirit of stop-motion animation. This effect can be disabled in the settings if desired. South of Midnight has 94% positive reviews on Steam based on more than 3,500 reviews.
