David Harbour and Jodie Comer will not return to their roles.
Uwe Boll intends to reboot the "Alone in the Dark" film franchise based on the Alone in the Dark game series. As The Hollywood Reporter reports in an exclusive article, the director's company, Boll’s Event Films, has obtained the rights to a new film adaptation from THQ Nordic.
Boll has already turned to this franchise: in 2004 and 2008, he released two "Alone in the Dark" films, but both projects were panned by critics and did not recoup their costs at the box office.
This time, the reboot is claimed to be noticeably closer to the video game source material. Boll plans to rely on the plot of the latest installment of Alone in the Dark, released in 2024, and also maintain the atmosphere in the spirit of classic games inspired by the works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft.
In the 2024 game, the main roles were played by David Harbour and Jodie Comer, but a completely different cast is planned for the new film. Moreover, the project may only be the beginning of the franchise's expansion — producer Michael Rösch said that the team is considering creating a television series based on the game.
Details about the start of production and release date are not disclosed.
