Three Fields Entertainment, founded by former Criterion Games executives Fiona Sperry and Alex Ward, has turned to players for financial support via Patreon to continue their work.
Last week, Sperry announced on LinkedIn that all studio staff had been notified of layoffs.
The reality we face is harsh. As an independent studio, we won't see revenue from game sales anytime soon. We had to finance most of the year and all post-release content ourselves.
Sperry added that without publisher support, the studio would not be able to exist in its current form:
Making this decision was incredibly difficult.
The studio's Patreon page states:
Without your support, we cannot continue. Patreon gives us the opportunity to release updates more often, try new ideas, and create more content. It also helps us interact more closely with the community.
Sperry promised that the next update with crossplay will be released before Christmas.
