The developers have provided tools to help players continue their adventure if critical errors occur.
The developers of Of Ash and Steel have released update 1.05. This time, they focused on critical bugs. "Legal cheats" have appeared — it will be possible to use special debugging commands.
When version 1.05 is launched for the first time, a backup copy of the old version's save will be automatically created, just in case. When loading a save from an old version (before 1.05), several things will happen:
- A script will run to restore missing quest items (in the background)
- An autosave will occur, updating the current save to version 1.05 with new save and load logic. All subsequent saves of the current session will already be with the updated loader.
When loading for the first time on version 1.05, the script will try to restore all quest items that have disappeared from the world by checking for their presence in the inventory and by some other indirect signs, such as the start or completion of the quest.
If for some reason the script did not complete fully, the developers suggest using the debug command «spawnitem».
This is only relevant when loading a save from version 1.04, where items have already disappeared in the save. According to the developers, there "shouldn't be" such a problem in a new game on 1.05.
With the help of the debug command «setalivenpc», it will be possible to resurrect a story NPC if they were accidentally killed ahead of time.
