Without waiting for another wave of rumors, James Gunn personally announced that, following an international casting search, German actor Lars Eidinger ("Life", "Persian Lessons") has been cast as the villain Brainiac in the film "Superman: Legacy". The film will be a formal sequel to 2025's "Superman".
Plot details for "Superman: Legacy" have not been officially revealed. Gunn previously noted that the story will focus on the interaction between Superman, played by David Corenswet, and Lex Luthor, with Nicholas Hoult returning to the role — the heroes will have to unite in the face of a larger threat, which Brainiac will pose.
Filming is scheduled to begin in April 2026. The premiere of "Superman: Legacy" is scheduled for July 9, 2027.
