The number of fraudsters is steadily increasing amid the shortage of RAM.
With the growing shortage and prices for DDR5 RAM modules, cases of fraud with this component are becoming more frequent. One Reddit user shared a story of how he ordered a Corsair DDR5 2x16 GB kit on Amazon to build a second PC, but instead received 2x16 GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance LPX.
According to the user, the fraudster didn't even bother to replace the external heatsink — the DDR4 modules were simply placed in the DDR5 packaging. It is unknown whether the box was opened before delivery to the buyer, but similar incidents have occurred before even with sealed packages.
Although Amazon provides a return and replacement policy, buyers have to overpay: RAM prices are rising almost daily due to the global shortage caused by the demand for chips for AI.
