Although the film is still in theaters, the sequel to the Five Nights at Freddy's adaptation is now available for home viewing.
After just over two weeks in theaters, Blumhouse has released the horror film "Five Nights at Freddy's 2" in digital format.
This is a sequel to the adaptation of the popular game series Five Nights at Freddy's, which continues the events of the first film a year later. The story again focuses on the mysteries of Freddy Fazbear's pizzeria, as well as the relationship between Abby (Piper Rubio) and the animatronics. Josh Hutcherson (Mike) and Elizabeth Lail (Vanessa) also returned to their roles, and Matthew Lillard, Skeet Ulrich, and Megan Fox joined the cast.
On the Rotten Tomatoes aggregator, the sequel received only 16% approval from critics, while the audience rating was 85%. This gap became one of the most noticeable of the year. In reviews, critics noted that the film "is inferior to the first part" and "does not reveal the potential of the idea", while fans praised the visual style and atmosphere.
According to Metacritic, "Five Nights at Freddy's 2" ranked third among the worst films of the year in terms of average score, second only to Ice Cube's "War of the Worlds" and Simon West's "Spy Wedding."
Despite the weak reception from critics, the film performed confidently at the box office. According to the studio, the film grossed over $200 million worldwide, of which over $108 million was in the United States. For comparison, the first part of the film adaptation in 2023 ended its run with a result of about $297 million and became one of the highest-grossing horror films of the year.
