John Romero Revived New Shooter: Game Won't Be Canceled - Rumor
The Romero Games project, previously under threat of closure, has been officially revived. According to Insider Gaming, the game was originally called Hellslayer and was inspired by the mechanics of Hotline Miami. The player will control a priest fighting demons.
Editor Mike Straw reported:
The new game is not the one that was made in partnership with Microsoft. That version is gone, but they are using elements of it.
He clarified that the original Hellslayer was a first-person shooter with instant espawn after death.
Doom co-creator John Romero confirmed that the project has undergone significant changes:
The game has been virtually completely redesigned, but includes many elements from the original. We're not starting from scratch. The design is completely different, but the team is excited.
Romero noted that the new version has become "much smaller," which has revitalized the developers.
The project was saved after investors pulled out of it and the studio announced a possible cancellation.
