Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu has published the results of its annual survey among developers and celebrities in the Japanese gaming industry. Respondents named Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as their game of the year.

Among the survey participants are well-known figures in the Japanese industry: Devil May Cry creator Hideki Kamiya, Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka, Street Fighter 6 director Takayuki Nakayama, and former Tekken series head Katsuhiro Harada.

The top 5 looks like this:

  1. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
  2. Ghost of Yotei
  3. Urban Myth Dissolution Center
  4. Donkey Kong Bananza
  5. Mario Kart World

The Famitsu survey has been conducted for many years: developers vote for their favorite games of the year. Last year, the winner was the remake of Dragon Quest III: HD-2D Remake, and previously, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Elden Ring, and Death Stranding. This year, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 confidently took first place, confirming its status as one of the main hits of 2025.
