The film «The Mandalorian & Grogu», scheduled for release in May 2026, will introduce a new main antagonist instead of Moff Gideon. This is indicated by recent comments from actor Giancarlo Esposito, who played Gideon in the series «The Mandalorian».
In an interview with Empire magazine, Esposito confirmed that he is not involved in the project. At the same time, the actor noted that he hopes to return to the franchise in the future, as he considers Moff Gideon's story unfinished. The fate of the character previously remained uncertain. In the finale of the third season, he was at the epicenter of the explosion, but his body was never found.
The absence of Gideon means that the film will need a new central antagonist. The appearance of Rotta the Hutt and representatives of the Hutt clan has already been confirmed, but it is not yet clear who exactly will become the main threat to the heroes in the face of the Mandalorian Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu.
John Favreau is once again directing the film. The premiere in cinemas is scheduled for May 22, 2026.
