Fantasy author Brandon Sanderson has announced that he is taking the first steps towards a possible AAA game based on his Mistborn series, but there is no official agreement yet.
The writer noted in his blog:
The gaming industry has begun to show real interest in the project, and I feel that we now have a chance to release a game based on "Mistborn".
He noted that he is in talks with some major studios:
This is just the first step, but it is already encouraging. The rights to the game have been tied to the film for the last 6-7 years, so it was only recently that we were able to check the market interest.
Sanderson emphasized that this time he wants to retain control over the video game rights:
Major players in the industry, whom I value, have already expressed interest in the project. If you run a AAA studio or a large indie company and would like to make a game based on "Mistborn" or "The Stormlight Archive", you should contact my representatives.
No contract has been signed yet, and the game has not been officially approved, but the growing interest of the industry gives a chance for a large-scale RPG in the Sanderson universe.
