Earlier, a rumor surfaced online that NVIDIA is preparing to bring the RTX 3060 back to the market. According to unconfirmed information, the company allegedly instructed partners to restart production of graphics cards based on the Ampere architecture to compensate for the shortage of new GPUs and maintain the mass market segment.

Now, NVIDIA has been asked about this directly. During CES 2026, a journalist from Tom’s Hardware asked Jensen Huang whether the company is considering the possibility of resuming the production of previous-generation graphics cards using older process nodes where manufacturing capacity is available, in order to reduce market pressure.

In response, Huang noted that such a scenario is generally possible and admitted that previous generations of graphics cards could theoretically receive new technologies.

“Yes, it is possible. Depending on the generation, we could bring some of them back and even add modern AI technologies there. This would require significant engineering work, but overall it is possible. I will think about it — the idea is not bad.”

Thus, Huang did not deny the very possibility of returning 30-series graphics cards to production. Moreover, he allowed for a scenario in which such models could receive some features previously available only to the latest GPUs. This likely refers to technologies such as frame generation, which are currently officially limited to the RTX 40 and RTX 50 lines.
