Netflix has announced a documentary film titled One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5, which will be released on January 12 and will tell the story of the creation of the final season of the Stranger Things series.

The project was produced by Angus Wall, Terry Leonard, and Kent Kubena with the participation of MakeMake Productions studio. The film was directed by Martina Radwan, who spent almost a year on the set, observing how the Duffer brothers and the actors said goodbye to the characters they had worked on for many years. In the documentary, viewers can expect behind-the-scenes footage of the final episodes, emotional interviews with the actors, and discussions of key plot decisions.

For brothers Matt and Ross Duffer, the project became a way to summarize nearly a decade of work and bring back the feeling of old cinematic "wonder" to the audience.

“When we were kids and dreamed of becoming directors, Hollywood seemed like something unreachably distant. Everything changed when we watched the documentary films about the making of The Lord of the Rings, filmed right on set. They showed what nuts and bolts make up a big movie. We saw how involved Peter Jackson was in the process and thought: ‘Yes, this is our dream.’ With the disappearance of physical media, this format is gradually fading away, and we really wanted to bring it back. One Last Adventure — a film shot and directed by Martina Radwan — became our attempt to bring back that movie magic.”

The authors note that the film is addressed not only to fans of Stranger Things, but also to everyone interested in how large-scale Hollywood projects are born.

After the release of the last episode of the fifth season on January 1, a fan theory flared up online, eventually forming into the Conformity Gate movement. Its supporters suggested that the shown finale might be an illusion or intentionally incomplete, and that an additional episode was hidden somewhere, allegedly timed for January 7 — Orthodox Christmas. However, after the announcement of the documentary film, many members of the community admitted that it is likely this film that will be the final farewell to the series.
