Square Enix owns several iconic JRPG series that have formed the foundation of the genre for decades. Besides Final Fantasy, one of the company's gems remains Dragon Quest, which will turn 40 this year.
Despite often remaining in the shadow of Final Fantasy, the series shows impressive results.
According to Square Enix, Dragon Quest XI has surpassed 9 million copies sold, increasing the result by 500 thousand since October 2025.
It is also confirmed that the series as a whole has sold over 95 million copies. The figure is expected to approach 100 million after the release of the Dragon Quest VII remake, which will take place on February 5, 2026.
Latest official sales data for the series:
- Dragon Quest XI - 9 million (was 8.5 million in October);
- Dragon Quest III HD-2D - 2 million;
- Total Dragon Quest - 95 million.
