Indie developer Rakuel has announced that he will remove his free card game Hardest from Steam by the end of January. The project was released in June 2025, and all the visuals in it were created using generative artificial intelligence.

I made this game last summer in a couple of months and decided to use AI because students are very actively brainwashed at the university, and all the tools are given for free - you could generate an unlimited number of images at no cost. But then I realized that AI is not really free. It has a huge impact on the economy and the environment. Some AI companies may use the very existence of such a game as an excuse to squeeze even more investment - investment that does not benefit anyone, but simply sucks resources out of the economy and ordinary working people. I wrote all the code myself, so in the future, if I want, I can make a new game with real assets. But in its current form, the existence of this game is a shame for all game creators and players. From an ethical point of view, the only logical solution is to remove the game from Steam. I was led to this conclusion by the girl I have been dating for a month.
